This is a group of islands situated in the centre of Taihu lak. Its name, meaning West Hill, indicates that it overlooks the East Hill from the west across the water. On the major island, Dongting xishan, there are 41 of the 72 Taihu peaks, with Piaomiao peak, at 336.65 metres, being the highest of all. The charming island scenery and historical sites of the ancient kingdoms of Wu and Yue make West Hill the cream of the Taihu lake scenic Area.
Luxuriantly covered with trees hundred years old, the islands produce, various, fruits, including orange, plum, loquat, date, persimmon and pomegranate, many of its most famous scenic sights are found on the linwu (forest House) hill, a Taoist land. The Taoist temple is housed in six labyrinthing caves with a total floor space of 4200 spuare metres.
From Jiafu Tower up the hill, one can enjoy the beautiful dcenes of the taihu lade. In early spring, when the plum trees blossom, the hill is turned into a colourful picture as gorgeous as brocade. |
